Mystery of the Blue Houses at Kolkata

    In Kolkata (Calcutta), capital of the Indian state of West Bengal, government buildings, taxi and pavements will be painted white and blue.

The first impression of the visitor is unexpected, by reason of the English names of the streets and the impressive Victorian architecture. Although some catalogue Kolkata as the dirtiest city in the world, its people are famous for optimism and zest for life, consequently it is called the “city of happiness”. Kolkata, the heart of modern India, has produced writers such as the famous poet Rabindranath Tagore, renowned musicians and political thinkers. Today the town is known for its artists and intellectuals and it is the cinema center of Bengal.
